Known for starring in hit films like Juno, Inception and Umbrella Academy, Elliot Page has received support from thousands of fans and supporters after coming out as transgender, introducing himself as Elliot Page on social media.
Elliot posted a heartfelt message on social media on Wednesday, “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
The Hollywood actor, formerly known as Ellen Page was grateful to supporters and thanked the trans community for helping him on this journey. Elliot wrote, “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”Page came out as gay in 2014, has been part of Hollywood’s LGBTQ community and married dancer Emma Portner in 2018.
"I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer," wrote the Canadian-born actor, who has recently starred in Netflix as Vanya in superhero series "The Umbrella Academy."Despite how grateful Page is, in his announcement he also asked for patience, stating his joy was real but also very fragile. Page said, “The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I’m scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence.” He is inspired by the transgender community for “ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.”
He ended the post with addressing the trans community, “To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence everyday: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.”
